As a stand alone the Reliance Premier is a solid machine. If you have one just put some time between it and a classic like a Royal 10. The Reliance is that second car… the one you go to the store in and the daily commute to work car. The car gets you where you want to go… the one you don’t always admit you own. But… it does get the job done… as such it has a place in your home.
Some days you just want to get out a classic heavy-weight like the Royal 10 (1928) and let it do its thing. A truly fantastic machine.
If the typewriter functions… I will type with it.
The end result might not be pretty… but as long as words appear on a page the carriage moves and the space bar does its thing; creation takes place and I visit the world of bliss and awe.
106 years old and with a little exercise the Empire Typewriter is starting to shape up nice.
There are more than one way to contact the platen…. “The Empire” uses a thrust (push) motion to make contact with the platen. Odd… but well made. Not the fastest machine out there but quiet. Made in Canada… and great to use and just to look at.
Went out on my bike and took some photo’s of some early April flowers.
… but at the end of the day the message beneath the visual’s cause me pain. From the start when Black Widow is sent to seek the help of Hulk… she offers trust but is backed up by an Army with guns (just in case). The movie is fantastic eye candy… and great fun if you can ignore/or never consider the reality of what some of these hero’s are doing… to save the day. The bad guy thinks of himself as a God… the good guy leader… acts like an all knowing human being… and because he saves the world… all is okay… and all will be forgiven. Good to save the word… bad not to face a downside for the method… ** two stars.
Sometimes I just get behind the keyboard and let the words spring from my fingers as they wish. Each press of the key can take me anywhere… to mirth… or sadness… reflection or just feelings of creation or nothing. On this day I just let the keys speak. I just play with words…
