Fun with a 1909 Ideal…

Press the key’s and don’t stop… 115 years after being built this 1909 Ideal typewriter is fun. It works better than the person at the keyboard (and I am only in my 60″s). If I used this machine more often I could get better results. If I sent it out to be restored… I would have something so special I would just look at. Sometimes you take something for just what it is and that is enough. Perhaps in 30 years the next owner will fix it up. I will just have fun pressing keys.

Part 2: On a bicycle in Iowa 2023

Every time I join the group of bicycle riders who decide to ride across Iowa; I find myself surrounded by people full of joy, hope, fun, kindness and goodwill that I start to think: “It’s not so high a bar to reach for.” So why not lift up that hand and think: “I’ll be better…” Everyone have a good day… thank you for being…

Iowa state of mind…

For three decades I have ridden my bicycle across the state of Iowa. If the ride was a “go for 2020” I could say four decades. I miss that I will not be able to say this until 2021. I think of the world today and the world only one year ago. So much taken for granted, the ease of being together and able to visit; travel, shop without thought or mask. I also felt that the divisions would fade; and ways to goodwill would rise like a morning sunrise with ease… all would simply have a new beginning.

No Iowa ride this year… but in my thoughts and mind I see and reflex on all the kindness and fun I found in Iowa each year. Each year people from all over the United States and the world would ride bikes. It seemed to me this was “America at its Greatest”. The rider’s from the Air Force would be offering a helping hand. Bike repair workers, police, fire department, health care workers, people ready at all times; to support all. As sure as the sun comes up in the morning a good time could be found on the ride. Regardless of what is happening today I know that the best of America is in people’s goodwill and kindness to others. Just thinking about it makes my day hopeful.

Just my imagination

In this time and in this place; I look for my imagination to take me to a place where I can feel good and see a brighter day that is just around the corner. I can avoid the worry and dark spaces that can drag down a mood and find false thoughts that only bring despair and doubt. Does not take much, I can look to the sky or imagine a bike ride… or all the good things that make a blessed life.

Looking up….

Keep learning…

I am in year 3 of my return to league bowling. I have come full circle trying expensive balls, shoes and glows and now find success using a cheap plastic ball. Last week I bowled a 79 with the cheap ball… but instead of getting frustrated… I just adjusted. Then I bowled a 202 followed by a 199, still using the low end plastic ball. I learned to trust my self… I first bowled in the 1970’s… I just relaxed and bowled. I had learned something knew… trust one self… believe in your experience and skills… something I should have learned long ago but I just learned. Which goes to show what can happen if you keep learning and trying new things… even when its a old self.
