When winners sound like losers…

Less than 7,000 people belong to the group that give out OSCARS!  Less than 1500 have the right to vote in the Actor category… it is only an award show.  The 2016 OSCAR’s looks nothing like the 1966 OSCARS  (Patch of Blue won two OSCARS… in 2016 people might complain about who was not nominated while in l966 I recall the celebration that Sidney Poitier had made another movie of importance.  Why not celebrate what is on the screen… which is very diverse and uplifting and not just who gets a trophy.

I type myself a letter…

When I moved to my new house…. I did not notice the Confederate flag on display across the street from me and I don’t care.  I learned long ago that what is in a person’s heart is not reflected in a flag they show.  51 years ago I learned that some of the most open/honest and dependable friends I gained were more accepting of a person of color than those who grew up North.

If I expect people to judge me by my character…. I have to be willing to do the same.

A force of nature… over 50 and a winner!

I came across a newspaper clipping from 1979… my Aunt had just won a “beauty contest” at her church… she was over 50 at the time and the opposite of what most people would think would win.  Not thin… had  opinions that covered more than world peace and used words that would cause a sailor to blush… a real force of nature!  She had her own views on beauty and that the fact she won… proves she was right!
