I keep finding new areas of interest from reading and using old, (some would say)Â obsolete machines… go figure.

TV had a documentary on Facing Ali (2009) the contrast between the fighters in their prime and today was quite dramatic. I believe all concerned would be under 70 years old and for some the toll has been high… yet they all come across proud of their achievements and do not complain about the price paid. Which in the end is a great example of how to live a life.
Three years ago I went to the Etcetera (Newsletter for the Early Typewriter Collectors Association) and found it full of information. Now I find it a to be a great read; full of humor and interesting things to do.
Some how I missed out on Ed Peters comment in issue 1 (Oct 1987)Â regarding when to be choosy: “If I had heeded my own advice, I never would have accumulated a basement full of common Remingtons, Underwoods, L.C. Smiths and the like- some of them so bad that only a mother could love them…”
Or issue 2 (Jan 1988) “Sitting on your hands and enjoying your “secret collection” is kind of like scoring a hole-in-one when you’re playing alone.”
Just goes to show how one’s views change with time and knowledge. (I just sent off my check to subscribe…
At the keyboard of this 1956 Underwood… I decided that tomorrow I would strive for nice. The keys just lead me to such thoughts. Each time I sit down at this machine I strive for nice and now it inspires goodwill with a single touch. I have trained it for nice type… nice moods and goodwill thinking.
Events on 9/11 altered perceptions and interactions all over the world. The purpose may have been to bring terror and fear into one’s heart and life. I refuse. I will walk in the sun and in big crowds… (looking both ways) being realistic about our planet. I will strive for good regardless… it is what I was doing before 9/11 and it is what I will do now. Events of that day hurt my heart; but did not harden it…
