The big mouth Corona 3 (1930)

Things change… the Corona 3 was sold from 1906-1939 (700,000) and modified improved with time.  l8 years separate my 1912 & 1930 Corona 3 and truth be told my l912 well used, beat up, repainted Corona is a much better typer than the Corona 3 Special that looks like it was used very little and put on display.  Not that this means much… two machines out of 700,000.  Both built in the USA one built for the English market.

The Royal 5 Standard (1913) still has a light touch.

When you grow up in the modern age with computer keyboards, electric typewriters… its easy to overlook just how advanced a typewriter the Royal 5 was for its time and place.  Until I read up on typewriters and had experience with other 100 year old typewriters… I did not appreciate just how light a touch the Royal 5 had.  When the light bulb in my head went on… I was really amazed by the machine.  What I take for granted today… was a true marvel for its time.

Corona thoughts…

Odd to consider the range of emotions and perceptions a mere typewriter can cause.  One day I buy a typewriter someone had painted yellow… I just want to try out a Corona 3.  I type a little and think… okay… then do a little touch up the paint comes off.  Then it transforms into a mystery.  I start to use it  more.  I consider what other 3-bank typewriters might be like.  The Corona 3 becomes more special to me… why?  It’s only a typewriter!  It was made to type on…  so I type.

Gee…

When using a 100 year old typewriter... type...
When using a 100 year old typewriter… type…

I will not rename my Sears Tower typewriter the Willis Tower…

Silly arguments happen everyday.  I wanted to have one I could control… so I have vented on what we call things.  Then how we refuse to accept change…. and when you consider one thing… the building… the typewriter… what-ever even the dog… will not care.  Call a dog Larry one day… and Bill the next… if food is associated with you looking at them and saying

Rover eat… they will come (they know the important word is eat… food… meal…. ready… supper and not Joe… Bob.. or Jane)…

Oh… I do know that Smith-Corona made this for Sears… but that is another story…

No matter that they call the Sears Tower the Willis Tower this 1951 typewriter remains Sears.
