Great memories in those pictures and you are a lucky man having heard him play. I picked up a copy of a Basie/Kansas City 7 CD last winter and it is magical stuff.

It was fun… the first time was in a shopping mall parking lot (big band summer 1974)… then in Grant Park, at the Chicago Jazz Festival… (what started as a tribute concert for Duke Ellington… became a place to see Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Lional Hampton, Joe Williams, Mel Torme, Clark Terry, Roy Eldridge…many others and free!!!
