For the 25th ride… everyone got a Passport and 33 Local Post offices had special stamps to cancell your RAGBRAI Passport.

The nice thing about a dog… you come home and they are happy to see you. When you leave they are sad. What happens in between is best unkown.
The bike ride beckons…
If you wish to read a really inspirational story see the article by Kyle Munson about a young lady who lost six months of her memory… she rode the bike ride across Iowa last year and does not remember it. So she will ride this year for the second (first) RAGBRAI.
Moving forward… and up toward mellow.
No time to be sad or blue or mad. One small step toward mellow makes a better day than sitting in the mud of despair. So… once more we push the boulder toward happiness and if it falls we will push again tomorrow.
Ode to an old underwood…
The Underwood should be enough…
When you have one great typewriter…. why get another. I hate to say it but I cheat on my Underwood.
Typewriter adaption…
I find that I enjoy having to re-think…. adapt and process differently just to create a decent looking page of print on a given typewriter. If each machine were refurbished or brought up to standard then I would not be having this much fun. I like having to make the mental adjustments more than fixing the mechanical parts that would make each machine work as designed. I replaced parts on this 1923 Underwood and it worked better over all but the feel of the machine changed. Where before I felt that if I could just get the mechanical part to function then I can write books on this thing… the well the keys moved and functioned just felt wonderful. The adjustments changed the action and feel and movement of the machine… it is a much better and functional typewriter…. but my fingers find less joy when using it. A “Catch 22″…
