All posts still free… at Typeoh… no charge… unlimited reading….

Today I went to read an on-line article of a major newspaper and a pop-up declared I had to sign up for digital plus… this was free as long as I read no more than 5 articles a month (I’ve been known to read that many in a hour).  Not sure if the less interesting… less detailed articles will remain free… I don’t mine paying for news… I but 5 free a month?  That’s not enough for me to get a feel for the depth and breath of the newspaper to want to read all the time and subscribe.

Any way… Typeoh is still free for anyone to read.  Unlimited reading all day… everyday.

What words a Royal will bring…

Sometimes I just get behind the keyboard and let the words spring from my fingers as they wish.  Each press of the key can take me anywhere… to mirth… or sadness… reflection or just feelings of creation or nothing.  On this day I just let the keys speak.  I just play with words…

A foolish thing… Cap(ital) thoughts…

They use to say that politics was all about comprise.  The same can be said for typewriters when they are out of alignment.  If you work together you can get better results by going to one’s strengths.  Something learned from a 1913 Royal 5.  Just one way to get everyone on the same page.

Gee!

Working with the keys... Royal 5 (1913)

The Royal 5 Standard (1913) still has a light touch.

When you grow up in the modern age with computer keyboards, electric typewriters… its easy to overlook just how advanced a typewriter the Royal 5 was for its time and place.  Until I read up on typewriters and had experience with other 100 year old typewriters… I did not appreciate just how light a touch the Royal 5 had.  When the light bulb in my head went on… I was really amazed by the machine.  What I take for granted today… was a true marvel for its time.

Looking at six: Reliance, Woodstock, Remington, Underwood & Royal 5 & 10

When I was in high school a friend of mine bought a brand new 1970’s something Ford Pinto… he opened the hood and explained to me just how little he thought of the components that made up his car.  But it was brand new.  I was driving a decade old (plus some) Thunderbird and loving it.  Another friend had a 64 Mustang that he considered a hand-me-down and really wanted a Firebird.   A 57 Chevy was something your Grandparents owned …   A VW “Thing” was cool… Gremlins were interesting… Bugs were everywhere and the only truly important thing was to drive… anything that moved… was better than the bus or walking.

Time places it own take on the value of a car made 40 years ago. Looking back on typewriters made 90 years ago… I start to think would I buy a fully featured used typewriter or a brand new low-priced one. Where I live someone owns a 1970’s Ford Pinto (not me) and another a Yellow 1959 Caddy… guess which one draws a crowd?   Nothing wrong with that Pinto.  Noting wrong with a Reliance… either (which for some reason I keep wanting to call Reliant).
