Hermes 2000… no just 4…

It took me some time before I would buy a Hermes.  I did not trust the hype.  I thought the price was high… and even with the interesting color… it was only a typewriter.  That’s what I thought in 2012 when I first started researching typewriters.  Over a year later…. I have to say they are great typewriters (over priced) but… well worth having to use and type with.  My Hermes 2000 and Hermes 8 have the same quality as the 3000 and cost less.   The Hermes Featherweight is no lightweight when it comes to typing either.  Sometimes the hype is true.

Do or not do… that is the question

Was it Star Wars?  Yoda saying… “no try… its do or not do?”  Never fully in sync with that.  Trying is doing.  To not try is “nothing”.   Success if often just the effort.  Not the end result.  I look back and think I should have tried more often.  There are also things I tried and would not repeat…  still as the poem goes… the worse thing in life is “if”…

My favorite bicycle riding song…

The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa has taught me many things.  One of which is the theme for a bicycle team called “Team Rawhide Riders” a fixture on the ride since 1982… they have special lyrics for the Rawhide theme and today as I rode my bike… the lyrics kept going in my head like wheels on the road… over and over again.

Computer Owner 23 years… Typewriter Owner One.

Almost hard to believe just how long computers have been around.  I worked on one at work in 1977 and bought my first PC for my home in 1990.  Then there was that movie Desk Set with Hepburn and Tracy that was made 55 years ago (1957) about computers being brought into the work place.  I keep wanting to think of computers and the PC as something that just occurred but “not true” books about intelligent computers “Moon is a Harsh Mistress” dates back to 1965… TANSTAAFL!  Their ain’t no such thing as a free lunch…  (I find it amazing that spell check did not see TANSTAAFL as a misspelled word. )
